HAPPY MANX TALES:

Cabot

Already owned by an Adult male Manx Rumpy & Devon Rex lady, we were not intending to have another cat join us. However, after reading about the Blacktown Manx on Google, which led us to a Rescue site, I persuaded my wife to view him in Sydney with Beth, the kind lady who rescued him from death row.

As soon as my wife met this little Manx man, we unhesitatingly arranged to fly him back to Adelaide that night on the same aircraft as my wife. This kitten is Mr Personality Plus & deserved to be saved. He had the Qantas staff fussing all over him. The Rescue lady said this little fellow is so special she would have rescued him even if he was not a Manx & he is so loving/endearing we would have also flown him to Adelaide if he was a moggie.

Manny our Rumpy Manx man & Cabot (as we have named him) now 17 months old, have been inseperable ever since they met some 13 months ago & behave as though they have known each other forever, even though Manx kittens play hard. They sleep together, play together and groom each  other.
Chloe our Devon Rex lady has also accepted Cabot, but is more reserved as Cabot keeps trying to play with her tail. We cannot understand why this lovely micro-chipped Manx kitten was never claimed & ended up on death row. However, we have gained a wonderful addition to our Family & are daily most thankful for their companionship in out cat-safe home.

We are glad Rescue people exist.

Sascha

In early March 2009, young Cymric Mum Sascha & her 4 beautiful kittens were due to be Euthanized in Queensland, but were thankfully rescued by two caring people, who sought assistance when the kittens were just about 3 weeks old.

Sascha never received proper nourishment during her young life & when rescued was in a sorry state, having given everything she had to her 4 kittens that were surprisingly in good condition.
In addition to providing Sascha with sufficient good quality food, her rescuers had to eradicate her flea infestation.

The rescue of Sascha & her 4 kittens was difficult undertaking, as they needed to be relocated immediately and foster care was not readily available in Queensland. The rescue was achieved by flying from Adelaide to Brisbane then travel from Brisbane by car to collect Sascha & the kittens, then travel by car to Adelaide, which took four days & overnight stop-overs in Cat-Friendly accommodation at Taree, Windsor in Sydney & Melbourne. Sascha who was given "pitstops" every two hours travel for food & toilet breaks traveled completely at ease in the car, which also carried a covered litter tray in addition to the PP40 for travel accommodation. The driver also kept Sascha & her kittens company each night to attend to Sascha's food & toilet requirements.

Once Sascha & her 4 beautiful babies arrived in Adelaide, it became most obvious Sascha was going to be a Foster Failure & enjoy the rest of her life with the resident Manx cats, Manny & Cabot, plus Chloe Devon Rex.
Sweet Sascha never had much love in her previous life and has learned to enjoy being loved my humans, as well as her cat companions. Sascha loves being with her humans & helping with everything that goes on in the household. We count ourselves most fortunate Sascha is a forever, valued member of our Family & no longer a waif.

Panda

When my father in Adelaide adopted Cabot, the "Blacktown Pound Manx" he found another kind Rescue lady had saved a girl Manx kitten from death row & listed her for adoption.

After prompt phone discussions between the lady, my father and me, were able to offer a safe, loving home for this little black & white Manx girl with out adult male DSH cat & cat-friendly lady Australia Terrier.

Accordingly, Panda, named for her markings (formerly Louise) flew from Sydney to Melbourne to join us.
Panda not only charmed the airline staff, but was just as wonderful in her loving nature as the Rescue lady advised. She is a beautiful natured young lady.

Panda has fully settled into our home, has been accepted by Wheat-Bix the cat & Banshee the dog.
Princess Panda rules the house, enjoys human company & has my husband, children & myself well trained.
We are so happy to have Panda join our family where she can enjoy life.

Well done Rescuers - One adoption resulted in two adoptions!

BobCat

Young BobCat was rescued from "Death Row" in a NSW pound at 4 weeks of age & adopted by a family in Victoria when he was 14 weeks old. His Rescue involved a special trip by car from Adelaide to NSW, BobCats's transport to his new home Victoria, then the rescuer returning to Adelaide.

BobCat's new family was overjoyed to adopt this lovely young man & his rescuer was most happy to have saved him from Euthanasia.

Myles

Myles was suppose to be a foster boy. He was put on a plane from Sydney where i was to meet him at Melbourne Airport & that's where it all happened!

The moment i got the transport crate into the car, I let Myles out as it was a long drive & i felt sorry for the poor boy being so cramped in his little PP20 crate. The moment he looked at me, i knew it was all over...
Myles was coming to stay!!!

Five minutes after walking in our home, Myles made his presence known to all & made him-self very welcome! When it came time to put him up for adoption we just couldn't do it, Myles was in his forever home.

Myles has changed out life & made it so much more  interesting. He is Mr Cool, Calm & Collected, so gets on well with out other cats & our dog. I don't know how i ever lived without a Manx!
They are one of the best breeds & every household should own one!

Thank you to John for bringing him into our lives.
Dani & Shaun - Melbourne.

Mandy

Mandy came to me in October (09/10/2009). She was about 6 months old.

I was on Cat-World (a public forum) when John put out the call for foster carers. I put my hand up & said if there was anything i could do i would help out in any way i can. John said we have this special little girl i would like you to foster, she has had a hard life and is in a pound in NSW & we need to rescue her quickly before she is put to sleep. Mandy as we named her, needs some loving & some special caring, are you up for the job?

The very next evening, Mandy was collected from Melbourne Airport by a friend & brought to me so i could care for her. The lovely lady who picked her up was as shocked as i was when we both saw the state of this beautiful girl. She has been left to roam the streets for god knows how long & then picked up & dumped into a pound here she would eventually be on death row.

Mandy was skin & bone when she arrived, her face was that of an older cat while her body was the size of a very young kitten. You can barely tell how old she really is but as far as we know she is 6 months.
Mandy has been with me now for over a week, her coat has gone from dull to shiny & she has slowly started to gain weight. Mandy has come on in leaps & bounds, she has slotted herself with my resident cats & has made herself right at home. She sleeps between my husband & me when we go to bed with her head on the pillow under the covers.

Mandy has the sweetest outgoing personality, loves people & has to tell you how her day is going.
When she isn't playing with the others she is back with us humans purring her sweet little head off.
My Husband & I debated for over a week if she should keep her or rehome her. We knew Mandy was an instant foster failure but we both didn't want to admit it. Mandy has taken over our lives.
There is a saying some of us foster carer's use, that once you have a Manx in your life you well & truly have been Manxed. It is so true.

Until i met John & some of the team at Manx Rescue Australia, I would never have considered a Manx, but i realise that now & in the future a Manx will always be a part of our lives. These cats are so beautiful, loving people orientated cats. I will continue to be a foster carer for these guys no matter when, where or how they come into my life. I believe every home should have a Manx or two in it.

Kerry & Ken along with resident cats, Bear, Bandy, Guin, Merlin & our two Red Heelers Boof & Bourbon.

Fudge & Mintie

After losing our aged, and very special ‘Smooch’ cat, we were looking for another people-oriented cat to fit in with our family – two kelpieX dogs and Helmet.  Helmet was a dumped kitten who lost most of his tail in an accident, and is a very shy cat – he was fretting after losing his best mate.  Many visits to our local shelter didn’t result in any cat ‘adopting us’, so we searched on the internet and discovered the Manx Rescue site.  We went to visit ‘Miley’ and were told that ‘Cinnamon’ had also just arrived from Qld, so we could see her too.  Cinnamon, who is now Fudge is the prettiest cat we’ve ever seen, so she was chosen immediately, but tiny Miley (now Mintie) persisted on snuggling up on the couch, so how could we not take both!

It took a little while for the dogs and new girls Fudge and Mintie to sort out the pecking order, but Helmet quickly decided he liked his new harem.  With his stumpy tail, he looks like a Manx himself.  Mintie is a lively, bold little girl who’s not afraid of anything, and has the dogs wrapped around her paw.  She starts her day  on my lap while I have breakfast.  Fudge has to snuggle into my neck at night, and spends her days being Helmet’s shadow.  They happily share a basket for one!

We recently went away on holidays, and our resident house-sitters (dog people) had no experience with cats.  Helmet’s harem taught them the meaning of the saying “dogs have masters, but cats have servants”.

The majority of our animals, dogs, cats and goats are rescues.  We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks Dani for helping us adopt Fudge & Mintie.  Manx cats really do have great personalities

Fanta

Looking through the gorgeous cat photo's on the Cat-World forum I came across a member who was fostering a sweet little orange kitten. I mentioned how my husband had always wanted an orange cat so that he could name it Fanta. Before long I was contacted by another member of Cat-World; Bentley 7 (John) who kindly offered to pay the plane travel expenses. So we had a look at some pet rescue sites but couldn't decide. A few weeks later, John contacted me again, telling me that another member, 2Chester (Beth) was currently fostering 3 beautiful little orange Manx kittens. He sent us some photo's and soon enough my husband and I fell in love with the little stubby tail girl Manx. Next thing we know, our little new family addition was on the plane and heading to her new forever home.

My husband picked little Fanta up from the airport. She was handed over to my husband from a big biker looking bloke who was rather concerned saying, "something is wrong with your cat mate, she's only got half a tail".

On the ride home, Fanta happily sat in her cat carrier, rolling around on her back and purring her little heart out. And when she arrived at her destination, she was out and into our arms instantly. Fanta was such a tiny thing at 8 weeks of age, but so friendly and affectionate. It didn't take long for her to wander around the house like she owned the place and before long she was best friends with our other two cats.

We are still getting to know Fanta and at just over 10 weeks old we can see her cheeky personality already shining through. She is so settled in already and we've only had her for a little over two weeks. She love cuddles and often throws herself down against us and then promptly falls asleep. She loves to play with her toys and is always getting up to mischief with Toby (our grey tabby) and then the two snuggle up together. Fanta happily wanders around the house and does her own thing. She is often found just playing with her toys, or tearing apart the toilet paper with Toby.

Fanta is a long haired Manx (Cymric) with beautiful shades of orange fur. She has little toe tuffs and the tips of her ears are a dark orange. She is a gorgeous little Manx and I'm sure as she grows she is just going to get even more beautiful.

Fanta has a fantastic nature, she is gentle, quiet and plays very well with our other two cats. She loves her food, and dinner time is one of her favourite times of the day. She was an awesome Christmas present and she really has just settled in so well and has already made this house her home, she is comfortable here, sleeps where ever she wants and loves snuggling up in between the pillows at night time on our bed. She often sends both me and my husband off to sleep with the sound of her loud purring.

We are blessed to have this little bundle join our family, she fits in perfectly and I know we will enjoy many years with her, watching her grow, and turn into the little cat with the nicest of natures and personalities any person could ever want. She makes my husband and I laugh everyday with her kitten clumsiness and bravado. She really is a fantastic cat and a treasure to us and the Manx breed. We could not be happier.
Fanta is the first Manx either myself or my husband have owned. So we are both looking forward to getting to know her and her personality as a Manx as she continues to grow.

A huge thanks will always go out to John and Beth for taking such good care of Fanta and their sacrifice to enable her to have a good forever home. These guys do fantastic work! So thanks guys!!

Bek & Carl.

Princess

In October 1999, Gorgeous, Super Affectionate, 5yo Princess  found Herself on Death Row in a NSW Pound because Her Owner died and the family threw Princess into the street to fend for herself

Manx Rescue Australia was asked if we would Rescue Princess in the event no one else would and she would be scheduled to be PTS. Naturally, we arranged to adopt Princess, whereupon Kind Beth in Sydney Sydney collected Her from the Pound, took Her to the Airport to fly to Adelaide, where Princess was Fostered by Kind Laurie (Adabel Bengals)

Thank You So Much Laurie, Brad and Cazanna, for All the Love and Kindness provided to Princess in order to make it possible for Her to Find Her Right People/Family

Patricia and Paul, who now live in Auckland after many years in the USA, are previous Manx Owners who lost their Much Loved Manx at 18yo and have been searching for the Right Manx Lady to join their Family, which includes Two Maine Coon Boys of around 5yo, who they brought with them from the USA. Following telephone discussions, Princess flew to Auckland on Friday, 5th February 2010 and arrived safely

Princess Instantly Charms Everyone who meets Her and Smooched/Head-Butted the Airline/Quarrantine Staff at both Adelaide and Auckland Airports. In True Manx Fashion, once Princess was released to Pat and Paul, She commenced Bonding with them and upon arrival at their residence, quickly decided She Was in Her Forever Home and as anticipated, spent Her First Night sleeping on the bed with Pat & Paul. Princess also slept on the bed the next night, which delights her new Mum & Dad, as does the fact Princess exhibits All the Manx "Dog-Like" Traits of Wanting to be with Her People and part of All that goes on

Knowing the Manx Purrrrrsonality and observing how Affectionate Princess is, as well as knowing their Coonie Boys are Very Cat Tolerant, Pat & Paul decided to let the introductions proceed naturally and happily, All went Well with Immediate Acceptance by All Three Cats - No Growling/Hissing Whatsoever

We are so Pleased Princess Now has the Right Loving, Forever Home she Deserves. When asked what should happen with Princess's Return Ticket, Both Pat & Paul said She would Not be needing it, as She was Safely Home Forever

Celeste

Celeste came to us as emergency foster.
Timid and frightened, Alyce at 15 and with a lot of cat experience, being that we have 4 cats and show them as well, spent her Christms school holidays working with Celeste.

Once all vet screened and cleared to mix, Celeste found 2 instant friends in our young balinese brothers. They taught her how to be a kitten and she quickly learned how to play like a siamese type!

Bonded to Alyce, she had found her person and was accepted by our 2 little bali's and 2 OLH, a credit to such well breed cats how they accepted her, she just decided she wanted to be with the big cats and followed them everywhere, copying their behaviour.

We just couldnt see Celeste so settled and happy uprooted and go through more trauma, her young life had already been without a family to love, a young mum who lost her kittens and was on death row in a pound, how could a cat under 1 have gone through so much?

Last week she tried her hand at a cat show, from death row to showgirl.
We love our girl!
